With summer in full swing in the Las Vegas Valley, pet owners need to be aware of how their pets are reacting to the heat. Newly opened air conditioning company in the Las Vegas area, Goettl Air conditioning has provided some tips to make sure that your pet stays safe and cool this summer. Here are some of the tips below.
Tip #1: Pavement Can Be Hot Enough To Burn Your Pet’s Paws
We can walk on asphalt roads, sidewalks and paved trails with no problems because we wear shoes. Our feet won’t feel the heat or in some cases the burn from these surfaces. Pets however don’t wear shoes and often walk barefoot and exposed on surfaces such as roads and sidewalks. In the summer, especially in the heat of the day, these roads and sidewalk surfaces can heat up so much that they can actually burn your pet’s paws. Goettl Air Conditioning recommends that you walk your pet during the early morning, late evening or even nighttime during the summer. The asphalt and pavement will have cooled down and be much safe for your pet to walk on. Alternatively, you can try putting some shoes on your pet. Be prepared for some gazes if you do this however.
Tip #2: Water, Water, And More Water
If you are taking your pet on a long walk in the park or the neighborhood, consider taking some water along. Pets can become dehydrated just like humans do. If you leave your pet alone outside in the yard when you are away from home make sure they have access to plenty of water. Having a shaded spot outside in the yard or a rudimentary structure for your dog to hide from the sun is also a good idea.
Tip #3: Grooming
For pets with thick fur, you may want to consider giving them a nice haircut for the summer. Trim as much hair and fur as you can. This will allow them to better maintain a stable body temperature and improve air circulation. Your pet will not only look fashionable with a new cut, but will end up being cooler as well.
